Welcome to St Crispin's School St Crispin’s is a special school providing education for primary and secondary age pupils and is located in south east Edinburgh. The school meets the additional support needs of pupils with severe, complex learning difficulties, many of whom are on the Autistic Spectrum. The school serves a wide area with pupils traveling from all areas of the city and a small number from Mid and East Lothian and 1 from Falkirk. The school is situated in a quiet, residential area with extensive playgrounds. It was designed and built in 1964 as a special school. Since then it has been extended and adapted to suit the changing needs of the pupils, particularly the increasing number of pupils with Autism. Classrooms have been adapted to include individual work stations and physical separation of areas to facilitate the implementation of TEACCH approaches. There are nine classrooms, a gym/dining hall, rooms for art and music, a swimming pool, soft play, a small library, fitness room, two small interaction/play rooms and a sensory room. There is also a medical room and two therapy rooms. There is an outdoor adventure playground and two garden areas. Most of the school accommodation is on ground level but there is an upstairs area which is accessible by lift. Two senior classes are housed in a separate annexe to the back of the school. It also contains a special needs toilet/shower facility. A small temporary unit is situated at the side of the building and enables individuals or very small groups to receive behavior support.
